November 2025

Notes from Peter behind the Pictures

I started PeterPaintsPictures as a side project from my day-to-day illustration work. I never imagined that it would grow into what it has become- an entity were I have to think about things like accounts, sales and marketing. What feels natural to me is drawing pictures and making artwork, not the business side of things. It has been a steep learning curve, and it is a summit I am yet to reach. I’m only beginning to learn that sometimes the drawings need to take a backseat in order to get the business in order. Although challenging, it has been fun to bring some sort of structure from the chaos of my picture making. It is a quiet relief to know that there is a time and a place for each task- it frees up brain space to make artwork.

Having said that, it is clear to me more than ever, that making art is where my passion lies. It is what I want to spend my working time on, and your support makes it possible. Thanks!

I’ll be on the road during November and December. Cohen & Co. Market (21st-22nd Nov.) and at Royal Hillsborough  (Friday 12th Dec). I’m looking forward to both as they are a great opportunity to meet so many new and old faces. If you’re there please come and say hi!

Reading Room

I have just started Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found by Andrew Graham-Dixon. I’m anticipating a great read as his previous book on Caravaggio was excellent. Although a fact heavy book, the narrative was fascinating and insightful and brought me closer to the artist and his workings. With Vermeer such an enigma, it will be interesting to read Graham-Dixon’s take on who he was and why he painted.
